Plumbing Repair in Northeast Ohio

Small plumbing problems have a way of becoming bigger inconveniences. A leaking fixture, a toilet that will not operate correctly or water showing up where it should not be can interfere with the way your home works.

Start With the Symptom

You do not have to know the technical name of the part that failed. Tell us what you see, hear or smell, when the problem started and whether shutting off a fixture changes anything.

Repair or Replace?

Sometimes repair is sensible. Other times age, condition, repeated failures or plans for the room make replacement worth discussing. We focus first on the actual problem and explain practical options.
If a dripping fixture is part of the problem, see the EPA’s household leak guidance for additional background.

Small Leaks Add Up

A drip is easy to ignore, but according to the EPA, a faucet that drips at the rate of one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons per year. A toilet that keeps running or refilling on its own wastes water around the clock. Leaks under sinks and behind toilets can also soak cabinets, subfloors and walls long before the damage is visible, so an early plumbing repair is usually the less expensive one.

Common Toilet Problems

A toilet that runs, refills on its own or will not stop filling usually has a worn flapper, fill valve or float. A toilet that rocks or leaks at the base may have a failed wax seal or loose floor bolts, and water leaking there can damage the subfloor if it is ignored. Weak or incomplete flushes can point to a partial clog or a tank that is not filling to the right level. Most of these are a straightforward plumbing repair once the cause is found.

Faucets and Supply Lines

Dripping faucets are usually caused by a worn cartridge, washer or seal inside the valve, and many need only a simple plumbing repair rather than a new faucet. The flexible supply lines and shutoff valves under sinks and toilets also wear out over time. A line that bulges, shows corrosion or drips at a connection should be replaced before it fails, because a burst supply line can release a lot of water quickly.

Know Your Shutoff Valves

Most sinks and toilets have a small shutoff valve on the supply line beneath or behind the fixture. Turning it clockwise stops water to that fixture only, so the rest of the house keeps working. The main shutoff, usually where the water line enters the home, stops water to everything. It is worth finding both before you need a plumbing repair, and checking that they turn; valves that have not moved in years can stick.

Before We Arrive

A few simple steps help the plumbing repair visit go smoothly:
  • close the fixture or main shutoff if water is leaking
  • move towels, rugs and stored items away from the wet area
  • take a photo of the problem area and any visible labels on the fixture
  • avoid using the fixture until it has been checked
