Drain Cleaning in Northeast Ohio

A slow sink can become a stopped sink. A drain that repeatedly backs up can interrupt an entire room. Anytime Drain helps homeowners in Cortland, Cleveland, Akron and across Northeast Ohio address clogged and slow drains and determine what the symptoms are telling you.

Common Drain Problems

  • Slow sinks, tubs and showers
  • stopped drains
  • recurring clogs
  • multiple fixtures draining poorly
  • backups or gurgling that suggest a larger drainage issue

Clear the Problem, Then Understand It

Clearing a blockage is important, but so is understanding whether the clog appears to be a one-time problem or part of something larger. We begin with the symptoms and affected fixtures, then determine the practical next step.

When to Call

Call when a drain stops working, repeatedly slows down, backs up, or begins affecting normal use of the room. If water is actively overflowing, stop water use in the affected area if practical and call for help.

What Causes Most Household Clogs

Kitchen drains usually clog from grease, fats and food scraps that cool and harden inside the pipe. Bathroom sinks, tubs and showers collect hair and soap residue over time. Toilets most often clog from too much paper at once or from items that should never be flushed, such as wipes, paper towels and hygiene products, even when the package says flushable. Most of these clogs can be cleared with professional drain cleaning.

When One Slow Drain Becomes Several

If a single fixture drains slowly, the blockage is usually close to that fixture. If several fixtures slow down at the same time, or water comes up in a tub, shower or floor drain when you flush a toilet or run the washer, the problem may be further along the main drain line. Call promptly for drain cleaning in that case, and limit water use until the drain has been checked, because more water can push wastewater back into the house.

Helping Drains Stay Clear

Regular drain cleaning is easier when less goes down the drain in the first place:
  • scrape grease and food scraps into the trash, not the sink
  • use strainers in sinks, tubs and showers to catch hair and debris
  • flush only toilet paper
  • call when a drain first begins to slow, before it stops completely
If your home uses a septic system, the EPA’s septic care guide explains what should and should not go down household drains.

Why Clogs Come Back

A drain that clears but clogs again within a few weeks usually still has something in the line: buildup along the pipe walls, an object caught at a fitting, or a problem further along the drain. Clearing only the first part of a blockage restores flow for a while without solving the cause. If a drain has needed repeated attention, tell us how often it happens and what has already been tried, so the drain cleaning can reach further along the line instead of repeating the same quick fix.

A Note on Chemical Drain Openers

Store-bought chemical drain openers can damage some pipes and fixtures, and the chemicals remain in the line when the clog does not clear. If you have already used one, tell us before any drain cleaning begins so the work can be done safely.
